Anti virus recommendation wanted

I tried installing Norton System works and after 2 very ugly days - I decided to return the entire package ( missing files - could not get a clean install from the Symantec provided CD).

I am running Win2k with all updates applied, using Spyware Doctor and various other utilities.

I would like some ideas about anti virus packages that folks are happy with on Win2k.

Re: Anti virus recommendation wanted

I read the threads indicated and checked out AVG and AVAST web sites. One of the problems I had with Norton was fighting with my use of firefox as a browser. Do you know if either of these have any problems with firefox. I didn't see any specifics, but the AVAST site kept referring to IE as a browser - may just be the way they wrote things.

Edited by IMNetUser 9/9/2006 ~ 1432 to correct link and spelling errors.

I recently installed AVG AntiVirus software on a couple of computers that college kids took to school. The default browser if FireFox now Version 1.5.0.6 for Windows.

So far no problems. A friend has an old Dell (P2 era) and managed to load XP Home. He is using FireFox with AVG AntiVirus software and has not reported any problems either.

There is no guarantee, part of "potential" problems are due to addon's that will be different from machine to machine.

I too have been using free Avast on this computer since I bought it 4 or 5 months ago. I use Fx and Avast doesn't give me any problems. It updates automagically and (with fingers crossed) I've not been bothered with any intruding crap. And of course, I also run Spyware Blaster, AdAware and Spybot to protect me from scumware.

I've used NAV with Firefox wot no problems.
What are the problems you see?
NAV 2006 seems to use less resources than NAV 2005.

Re: Anti virus recommendation wanted

I could not get a clean install using the supplied CD right out of the box. It was missing files that were needed for the av stuff. Got a dialog box saying to reinstall. I sent everything back this past Monday - so don't have the specifics available.
