    Places Bar (MS 2003 )

    I'm trying to edit the reg entry for the Places Bar in the Dialog Boxes.

    I thought I could use a Win98 format entry (?), but I'm getting errors. The following is what I use:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionPoliciescomdlg32Placesbar]
    "Place0"=C:"
    "Place1"="E:Setup Files"
    "Place2"="E:C_Drive"
    "Place3"="Cocuments and SettingsCWBillowMy DocumentsRegIds"
    "Place4"="Cocuments and SettingsCWBillowMy DocumentsSystemMS OfficeRules"

    I tried entering the items directly, and they "took" but didn't show up in the dialog boxes.

    What am I doing wrong here?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    I think the location for Office 2003 should be HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0Common Open FindPlaces, not some Windows location. See <!mskb=826214>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 826214<!/mskb>.

    Hans:

    I went to the location you gave me, and there are "Places" showing there, but I'm at a loss as to how the heck I input the data.

    My (Outlook) Rules folder looks like this: Cocuments and SettingsCWBillowMy DocumentsSystemMS OfficeRules

    In the registry though, it looks like this:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0Common Open FindPlacesUserDefinedPlacesPlace0]
    "Name"="Rules"
    "Pidl"=hex:14,00,1f,50,e0,4f,d0,20,ea,3a,69,10,a2, d8,08,00,2b,30,30,9d,19,00,

    Did you read the KB article? Why mess with the registry when you can manage the 'Places' from within any Office program?

    Re: Places Bar (MS 2003 )

    Joe/Hans:

    I found it.

    There's a file program I use that was intercepting the dialog commands. Once I turned that off, I was able to adjust the dialog per the KB, and then turned the other prog back on and they all lived happily ever after.

    Sorry for the boggle.

    Thanks,
    Chuck
