    Front Page 2002 (2002/1995-2001)

I have a website that I've had no problems working with using Front Page 2002. However, I have apparently done something which only I am able to do, and now when I open the program to work on my website, I get NOTHING. Everything is gone. How can I get it all back? Can I get it from my site and back on my computer?

And...if that's not bad enough.....I went to my laptop, which still has Front Page 98 on it. All of a sudden THAT one keeps asking me for my username and password. However, it won't accept them. How can I get around THAT issue?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Welcome to the Lounge!

You should be able to do a File > Import.

See Importing an Existing Web Site into FrontPage 2002 for some detailed help.

    And you will keep a local backup copy next time, won't you? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Regarding password requests, there are some IE security settings that can affect this. If you are editing your remote site, try adding it to your Trusted Sites list and see whether that helps.

Oh, and check out this old post (hope the links still work!): <post:=24,550>post 24,550</post:>

Microsoft says I can "work around" the repeated request for my password when publishing to my website. As is always the case, they assume that I know all the lingo. Step 1 says to open Internet Services manager. I have looked all over and can't find how to do this. Can you help? (remember...I know enuff to be dangerous).

I'm not sure what "Internet Services Manager" is. On a Windows Server with the IIS web server, there is a kind of control panel (a MMC console snap-in) to manage IIS. However, if your web site is a typical hosted website, you will not have direct access to this program. So maybe it isn't that at all...

Can you provide some more context from Microsoft's instructions?

Aha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I finally got the solution to being repeatedly asked for username and password when you go to publish from Front Page 2002. I typed it up...step by step and I'll try to cut and paste here, but if it doesn't work, email me at gator50@aol.com. Here goes..........

    STEP ACTION
    1 CLEAN OUT TEMP FOLDERS
    2 OPEN FRONT PAGE
    3 CLICK TOOLS
    4 CLICK OPTIONS
    5 CLICK PROXY SETTING
    6 CLICK INTERNET OPTIONS
    7 CLICK SECURITY
    8 CLICK CUSTOM LEVEL
    9 SCROLL TO USER AUTHENTICATION
    10 CLICK

Thanks. You might have noticed that one of the icons was selected at the moment you clicked Custom Level. Can I assume that in both cases it was "Internet" (not "My Computer" "Intranet Zone" "Trusted Sites" or "Restricted Sites")?
