Is Hibernate available in Me, NT4, 2000?

I've checked on my ancient Windows 98 SE box under the equivalent of Control Panel -> Power Options, and only Standby is available.

In Windows XP, both Standby and Hibernate are available.

Please could someone with Windows ME, Windows NT4 and Windows 2000 Pro let me know whether Hibernate is available in these operating systems?

    Thanks!

Re: Is Hibernate available in Me, NT4, 2000?

A search of the MSKB brings up these articles which would imply to me that if they are not available, there is something causing it.

    MSKB 245180 - W98
    MSKB 296773 - ME
    MSKB 255182- W2K

Nothing came up in my quick search relating to NT4.

There was also the matter of whether the PC's BIOS would support Advanced Power Management, so maybe Windows 98 SE checks for this, and (quite sensibly!) doesn't offer the option if there's no hardware support for it...

Thanks for the references, which I didn't think to check!

Re: Is Hibernate available in Me, NT4, 2000?

Edited by IMNetUser to add W2K reference

I have checked several WinME (including the notebook I am currently using) and 3 W98SE machines (all PC's). I also checked the "Work" machine with W2K OS.

Every one has the "Hibernate" Tab (on the "Power Option Properties" Popup window). There the user can select whether or not to activate Hibernation mode.

Re: Is Hibernate available in Me, NT4, 2000?

Thanks! So the answer is "Hibernate is available in Windows 98SE, 2000 and XP -- provided the hardware BIOS supports APM (all newer PCs will)".

Has anyone still got an NT4 PC?

    Thanks

Re: Is Hibernate available in Me, NT4, 2000?

I E-Mailed a friend who is using NT 3.51 OS on some of his projects at work. I was hoping he also had NT 4.

He cautioned that W98SE might not support Hibernate either (but you already figured that out with the last post). He responded that NT 3.51 did NOT support Hibernate, only suspend mode. Although he doesn't have any NT 4 machines in his lab, he is "pretty sure" NT 4 does NOT support Hibernate mode either.

I'm in an MCSA class right now, and one of the guys here just got laid off. HIs last employer was running a completely NT4.0 domain! I asked him, and he said not on its own, but there are third party utilities that enable it.

This search on download.com brings up quite a few shutdown utilities, but I can't test if it works or not...

Thanks! PCs running NT4 might be of an age when the BIOS didn't support hibernate, though. Although two years ago my old firm was still running NT4 on new Dells!
