    Why no server forum?

    Why isn't there a forum for Windows servers (NT4.0, 2000, 2k3)?

    Re: Why no server forum?

I don't see any other Mods or Admins right now, Jeremy, and don't know if anyone else will try, so...

I'm not into servers but is this not the appropriate forum for that topic: http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/post...t=&Board=xserv ? The forum description doesn't say too much and I don't monitor this board so I don't know the types of questions that get asked there. I'm embarrassed...

I suppose that works, but each of those are usually services on a server, not the actual server OS itself. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> No need to be embarassed, I completely overlooked that forum too <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Why no server forum?

The honest answer is that there has never been that great a call for such a specific forum, and most queries can generally be answered under the particular OS used in conjunction with the server or, as Al has suggested, by posting in the Servers forum.

The Lounge was originally about MS Office applications, but as it grew, new 'subjects' were added, depending on both the demand for them and our ability to 'support' them. In a similar manner, the 'Networking your Home' forum is there to cater for the individual rather than the corporate end of the market.

A quick glance in the Servers forum will show that questions about Windows servers are pretty thin on the ground, and even some of the few that we get remain unanswered. You could argue that a specific forum would generate more posts and would thus self-generate more expertise, but at the moment we're happy just handling what we believe we're good at.

    That's my take on it, anyway <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

The low total cost of ownership means hardly any problems? <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>

Hardly being the key word... I see your point.
