My Network Places

My son hooked up his Xbox 360 at my apartment tonight and came in to my office and asked what my wireless connection was and if it was secure. Didn't know I had a wireless connection on this DSL modem hardwired to my desktop system. So I took a look in My Internet Places while looking for Network Connections and discovered these strange places there. One in particular troubles me and it will not allow mw access to it to delete it. It's name is Content on iash.org.il and the website for that is the Israeli Association of Software Houses (IASH). Until tonight, I didn't know the site or the folder on my system existed. How can I get rid of this thing ??? Is it a permission thing ??? The error message says to contact the administrator of the server to see if I have accress permissions. Also that the network path was not found.

Are you logged in as an admin? In Windows Explorer, can you take ownership of it?

Right click > properties > security > advanced > owner > select yourself from the bottom list, and click apply.

    Re: My Network Places

Would that I could.... but thanks for the info. I'm sure it will work with "normal" folders & files.

I may have to contact the administrator of that server and find out what's up with this thing. I have no idea how that got onboard and it's been here since January of '05. It seems to be a link rather than a file or folder.

What happens when you try to delete it?

I went into my network places and was able to delete a similar folder simply by clicking and pressing delete.

    Re: My Network Places

It's gone. I don't know how it changed, but earlier when I would righr click or use any other method to highlight or access the damn thing, the hourglass would spin for about 30 seconds or so and then throw up an error saying that Windows couldn't delete/access/whatever it because I didn't have permission to access that server and to contact the administrator of the server to get permission (can you tell I didn't screenshot the error message??). Just getting the properties window to display took 30 seconds.

This time I went in via My Computer and dug down to the Nethood folder and simply right clicked and deleted it. Go figure. Just another Windows "feature".
