    Page numbering (XP/2003)

I have a Word document that has a cover page, then three index pages, followed by the body of the document.
I need to start number the pages from the body of the document as page 1, 2, etc.
How can I get this to work? Using the Header/Footer, I can only have the first or cover page not numbered. I have tried
several methods including Insert, Page Numbering...., Format, but can not make it work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Page numbering (XP/2003)

I'm using Word 2000 so I can't say what the differences in the steps would be, but if you insert a section break at the very end of the last index page, you can start the footer denoting the page number based on the section that contains the body of the document. See my attachment for the example.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Thanks Deb, your answer works in both Word XP and 2003.
