    Lookup anomaly (Excel 2002/2003)

    Hi

    Can anyone tell me why the red cells in the attached won't lookup??

    Because you haven't specified the fourth argument for VLOOKUP, Excel expects the lookup table to be sorted in ascending order on its first column, which it isn't. If you change the formula to
    <code>
    =VLOOKUP(frequency1,Period,2,FALSE)
    </code>
    where FALSE means that the lookup is not "fuzzy", it'll work. (But with a tick in every cell of the second column, the result won't be very interesting)

    Hi Hans

    Thanks for the prompt reply and the explanation, the reason for the tick is because the tick is looked up in another worksheet and placed in a cell to show which the frequency of cleaning.
    Daily, Weekly etc
