    Help Running Program (XP/Pro spk2)

I install all my programs as administrator but I usually operate under a limited account as do other family members. I have installed a program 'Telechart2007' which runs fine when I'm in my admin account but gives the following error when I try and run it from any of my limited accounts: 'Run-time error '75': path/file access error'. I think it has something to do with permissions but I'm not sure if it's system permissions or user permission. I've never tried setting permissions on my home computer. I have Woody's book 'Windows XP all-in-one desk reference for dummies 2nd edition' but I can't seem to find the info I need (I'm a real dummy). Telechart2007 is a paid service for stock charting, everytime it starts it will look for updates and install them and for this reason I think is the cause of the problem. What should I try?

Try right clicking the "ICON" and select "Run As". Here you will want to type your Admin account and PW.
If this works, all you will need to do is alway right click the icon and run as.

    Dave:
I have tried that and it will run that way. I was trying to find a way to allow the use of that program for other users without exposing my administrator user and login info.

Some programs require Administrator rights to run; that means, they are unavailable for "limited" users (except using RUNAS command).

Some programs require to be installed to "all users" (as Microsoft Office) to run from "limited" user accounts; the best way to do so is to install them from Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add a New Program wizard.

And finally, some programs will run from any account; it does not matter which way you install them (from the account with permission to install programs).

    Thanks kap..for the info.
I was trying to figure out how to assign permission via START..Run..mmc..to create a snap-in through control consel. Apparently that won't work if the program requires admin rights.
To clarify one of your comments...can you install a admin rights program via add/remove programs in control panel to all users and have it work? Or are you just out of luck with some programs? It seems microsoft and others have been pushing that everyone should be doing their normal work in limited accounts for security and virus protection but on the other hand they make it difficult to run these 'admin rights programs' difficult to use. I'm used to using the runas command and do that because I'm my own administrator. There are users on my home computer that I want to be able to use these programs without knowing my admin password. Oh well...

Make a "Admin Account" for the others to use to run this program. Make the password a pain to use so it will not be used all the time for other things. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

I have never tried it, but Encrypted RunAs is designed to solve exactly this problem.

    Stuart...
I went to check-out the 'Encrypted Runas' website. This sounds like a good idea but this is what I came across. The main website has info about this product and gives a 100% guarantee that there is no spyware/adware that comes with 'encrypted runas'. You have the option to download the trial version which will only work for three days (I think that's what it said) or you can go and purchase it for download. Here's a WARNING, I started to go through the purchase routine to see what the cost would be and when I started going to the next page my virus protection said I should not proceed because spyware/adware was present. So, anyone reading this and wanting to check this out please BEWARE.

    Thanks for the warning.

A Google search for runas tool returned a number of other possibilities, including Runas Professional 3 and CPAU.

Another, completely different approach to your problem could be to use SudoWn, this will allow specified normal users to run any program they want to that needs elevated privileges, but they will have to re-enter their password every time they want to run something.

I had the same experience with that site. I sent them a message about it yesterday. No response yet. So I'll suggest to avoid this site.
