    Can't link to BE (2003)

My Glossary database once lived on my hard drive. It was a split DB: glossary.mdb and glossary_be.mdb. One bleak day recently, my hard drive died. Corporate tech support hauled away the remains, but they managed to recover the My Documents folder. They put the contents onto a CD-ROM, and today a techie copied the My Documents folder from the CD-ROM (the R: drive) to my new hard drive. Now I see both files on my hard drive

check in explorer if your database is read only after being copied from a cd. that could do it

You could try creating a new database and copying all the objects from the glossary.mdb over to it. You should be able to open this directly, then use Linked Table Manager to relink to your backend.

It's not read-only. I guess my only recourse is to import the pieces into a new file, as you suggest. Thanx.

Have you checked to make sure the files copied off the CD aren't blocked? RIght click the file and open Properties and see if you see an "Unblock" button. If so, click it and follow the instructions.

No, there's no such button. Pulling individual items into a new database seems to be working, but it's a nuisance. Thanks for the tip. I've never seen that button on a properties sheet before.
