    CD rom door

I made a mistake and bumped into my cd drive while it was open. The door flew out and I can't put it back in even though nothing is broken on it. Do you have a solution.

Sounds like it's time to buy a new drive, unless of course you have experience at taking CD drives apart which you probably don't or you wouldn't have asked. Don't take chances - buy a new drive.

Thanks Big Al! Someone else just told me the same thing 5 minutes ago. That will work out fine because I really wanted a DVD writer anyway. Have a good day!

When you take the CD drive out of the PC to replace it with the DVD drive, you will undoubtedly find how you can replace the original drive door... (Bound to happen; never fails...!)

    Re: CD rom door

Hi, well I did it! I bought a new DVD Burner/Rom. It came with Nero Express 6.6.0.19 and Nero Vision Express 3. I am very interested in this Vision Express because I found out previously that I can make Slideshows with my photos which I was working on anyway in PowerPoint. I knew also that I needed the encoder MPEG2 etc.... which I then bought from Nero and received and installed according to their instructions. My problem is that when I'm finished with my slideshow including music and I try to burn it onto my DVD (so we can watch it on t.v.) I get this message: "Sorry, your compilation cannot be written on this kind of disc. Please insert a disc of the correct type or modify the settings of your compilation to make them compatible with the current disc". I don't know exactly what it means. I'm using DVD-R would it be my problem? I'm not sure what kind to use. I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

    Franny,

When you choose Slide Show in Nero Express, what kind of slide show are you specifying? I have the full version of Nero Vision and I have four options available: DVD Video, Video CD, Super Video CD, and miniDVD. In order to author a DVD, you need the DVD Video Plugin. Since it is an additional cost feature, it's likely that it was not bundled with the Express version of the product.

I think that is the problem, but if you can provide some additional detail, it would be helpful.

    Re: CD rom door

    Mark,
I also have Nero 6 that I received with a DVD drive purchase. OEM version. It has all of the options you mentioned for producing a DVD slideshow. No mention of a plug in required. I have produced a number of DVD slideshows for myself and friends with this SW. ( have used DVD-R and DVD-RW sucessfully.

BTW, Frannie, Neros lists the latest versions available as Nero V 6.6.1.4 and NeroVision Express as V 3.1.0.25

OEM is not the same as "Express", which is a slimmed down product offering. Is your OEM bundle the full version of Nero Vision? The UI in the screen shot you posted is identical to mine.

I suspect the Express version is the sole reason you can download a $24.99 (USD) plugin directly from their website.

    Mark,
I assume it's the full version.
Are your version numbers the same as I mentioned in the earlier post?

The version of Nero Vision I have installed reports itself as 4.1.0.15, and is part of the Nero 7 Ultra package. Nero itself is listed at version 7.0.8.2. Not sure where you got the version information that you posted, but it appears to be out of date.

    Re: CD rom door

It's only out of date if you have Version 7xxx
I still have and use Version 6.6xxx.
That information posted was from the Nero site itself but pertained to Nero 6 not 7.

    Re: CD rom door

I also recently purchased a new DVD burner that came bundled with Nero OEM and the version I have for Vision Express 3 is V 3.1.0.25 and it looks just Bob's screen shot. And Nero Burning Rom SE version number is V 6.6.1.4. I haven't tried making DVDs but it indicates that it should produce them just fine for most DVD players. Guess I'll have to get busy and see what this software can do! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Mark,

About a year ago I purchased a Sony DL burner that came with a Sony OEM version of Nero Burning Rom 6.0 and Nero Vision Express 3. Via the Ahead site I could update them to versions 6.6.1.4 and 3.1.0.25 respectively. It still sais it's a Sony OEM version. And the possibilities are exactly the same as shown in Bob's screenshot.

What happens when you try to burn a DVD? The error that <!profile=cuscus>cuscus<!/profile> is reporting sounds like a limitation due to the Express version. Just because the option is there... doesn't mean that it works.

If Express has this capability right out of the box (and I haven't checked the documentation on the website), then the cause of the error is something different, possibly the drive or the media being used.

I don't quite understand that. I thought that if the option was not there it would be greyed out?
Then the plug in would have to be purchased and added in? You seem to leave the impression that the plug in is needed for it to work at all.

I guess I'm not following the train of thought properly here.
