Mail-merge from a Word table (2000SR1)

I'm trying to mail-merge from a small Word XP=2002 document which is a table, but Publisher 2000 SR1 comes up with the message

"Before you can import data from a Microsoft Word file, the data must be in a table"

Well, it is! I recreated the document/table and tried again, with the same result.

It works fine when using

Publisher 2003 and the same Word document
Publisher 2000 SR1 and an Excel XP=2002 spreadsheet in similar tabular format[/list]Any thoughts? I've tried Googling with a singular lack of success (other than finding Rude Comments about Publisher 2000)...

Thanks

You might check whether the table is floating. This feature was introduced in Word 2002, so Publisher 2000 could have a problem with that. To check and if necessary correct this:
- Open the document in Word 2002 or 2003 (not in Word 2000!)
- Click anywhere in the table.
- Select Table | Table Properties...
- Activate the Table tab (if necessary).
- Make sure that 'None' is selected in the Text Wrapping section. (See screenshot)
- Click OK.

No, all the Table Properties are identical to your screen-grab. (And I've never met a floating table...!)

I may just have to put it down to a 'feature' in Publisher 2000 SR1, and use Excel instead for the data-to-be-merged.

Using Excel seems to be the best workaround. I'm afraid I don't have other suggestions for making it work with Word.
