fonts and printer fonts (Word 2002 /XP SP3)

    Hello

Our Word templates default font is Arial. In the Style drop down list the Heading styles are displayed as Arial.
However if I need to amend the style. When I goto Format, Styles and Formatting....select the Heading style, Modify, Font... The default font is displayed as "Helvetica".

If I change the styles default font to "Arial". I go back and check the Heading styles default font it has changed back to "Helvetica". In the Font display window, it mentions Helvetica "This is a scaleable printer font. The screen image may not match printed output".

When I print Arial and Helvetica, I cant tell the difference between these two fonts.

    Any ideas?

    many thanks

There is a slight difference between Arial and Helvetica, but only slight. Look at the shape of a capital R for instance.

But why the change you make to Arial doesn't stick, I'll leave to someone more expert to puzzle out.

Can you have a look at Tools > Options > Compatibility > Font Substitution and let us know what you have in there.

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner...I was away on a course.

When I look in Tools, Compatibility, Font Substitution ,the message displayed is "No Font Substition is necessary. All Fonts in this document are available".

You've got me stumped then. My PC doesn't even have a font called Helvetica!
