    The * wildcard (2003)

    Hi,

I have a paramater query. Some of the records in the table that the criteria relates to are empty. Sometimes I need to run the query and pick everything from that field, including the records where the field is empty. I have been using the * wildcard, but have noticed (to my horror!) that this is not strictly correct; it returns only the records where there is at least 1 character entered into that field and it ignores records for which there is no entry.

I have set the Allow Zero Length property to Yes on the relevant field.

What search criteria can I use to ensure that all records are returned, including ones with empty cells?

    Thanks, Laurie

As you have found, Like "*" does not include null (really blank) values. You can use the technique shown in the screenshot below. If you leave the parameter prompt blank, all records will be returned.
