Hyperlink in Protected Document (Word 2003)

I have a document with a hyperlink - it works when the document is unlocked but when it is locked, it does not work. When you mouse over, it says to control click to go to the hyperlink but it does not work. The document is going to be on a network drive and needs to be protected.

    Any ideas?

What kind of protection has been applied to the document - for forms, or for tracked changes, or no changes, or ...?

The only way to make the hyperlink active in a document protected for forms is to put the hyperlink in an unprotected section - but then the user will be able to edit the hyperlink too. If the hyperlink is in a protected section, it can't be activated.

The MACROBUTTON field will work in a protected form. It requires a double-click, and of course a macro, but if you need a way to launch a hyperlink from the document body, it's a possibility. I have attached a sample. In my configuration, gray shading is applied to the field, but this will depend on each user's settings.

Thank you - I created the macro and when I run it, it works and opens the correct link, but I do not know how to get it work work by double clicking on the link?? I was able to reveal the field codes and I think my problem is with the MACROBUTTON. Not sure how to accomplish this part of the task.

To create a MACROBUTTON field manually:
    - Make sure the document is unprotected.
    - Press F9 to insert field brackets { } (do not type them yourself).
    - Type MACROBUTTON followed by a space.
    - Type the name of your macro followed by a space
    - Type the text to be displayed (it may consist of more than one word).
    - You should now see something like

    { MACROBUTTON NameOfYourMacro Text To Be Displayed }

    - Press F9 to hide the field code and update the field.
    - Protect the document.

To create a MACROBUTTON field using the menu:
    - Make sure that the document is unprotected.
    - Select Insert | Field...
    - Select MacroButton in the field names list on the left.
    - Enter the text to be displayed in the text box.
    - Select the macro to be executed in the macro names list.
    - Click OK.
    - Protect the document.

I forwarded the file to the office who needs the form and they cannot double click to activate the link. Do I need to attach the macro somehow?

Where did you create the macro? It should be in a module in the document itself.

And the user must enable macros. If they have set macro security to High, macros will automatically be disabled; if they set macro security to Medium, they will be prompted to enable macros. (Setting macro security to Low is not recommended.)
