    Re: Acronis True Image 7

    Jeff,
I'm not sure if this is real or not. I know nothing of this ComputerActive.com.uk and it MAY be a pirate? Of course Version 7.0 is quite old and the latest Version is 9.0 with V10 in beta now.

I would be suspicious of it.
I went to the Acronis site and didn't see ANY mention of free version 7.0 being offered by them or any of their sales partners or of them supplying free registration numbers.

I have dropped a note asking Acronis about this offer and I will post back with their response. Meanwhile, I wouldn't fill out any of the "registration" information asked for in that link. That's the way phishing sites get their info. <img src=/S/alien.gif border=0 alt=alien width=14 height=15>

    Re: Acronis True Image 7

If you follow the link on that site to http://www.acronis.com/mag/vnu-ati7 then you do indeed get to a page on the Acronis web site that allows you to register for a free registration for True Image7, it looks like it was sent out as a cover CD on a computer mag.

If you're going to fill in this form then I recommend reading the Privacy Statement, the information you give them will be used for marketing, and they provide a URL for opting out.

    Re: Acronis True Image 7

    Stuart,
I'll still wait to hear from Acronis on that.
This is for Jeff's and others information only. I have V9.0 myself and working on beta 10.

If it is legit, then it would be a good way to try True Image, even if very outdated. Kind of like getting a free Windows 95 CD ( but then again you could download a trial 30 day Version 9.0 and check out the latest and greatest )

    Re: Acronis True Image 7

Bob, dont want to appear rude by not replying but got called away last friday -> today....of course you are right to advise caution but it is a legit magazine part of the Vunet group. They often offer these free links to software probably as a cheaper way than actually fixing a cd to the magazine cover. This week they are offering McAfee Spam Killer 2005, but as you so rightly point out it is probably easier to get a 30 day free trial on any of these progs as a try out before buying with the advantage of all the up to date features.

    Jeff,
No sooner had I received your post, than the Acronis support people answered my query. They did indeed confirm that the offer is legit and was sent as a "promo".

I guess I can get a little leery sometimes about some of these "offers" but this seems OK, even if it is Version 7.

    ( get the 30 trial version of 9.0 )

Thought this might be of interest to you, it seems they were a victim of their own success and myself and various others have'nt helped <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/hushmouth.gif border=0 alt=hushmouth width=16 height=16>

As an important Computeractive reader, you recently requested information
about how to download and register (obtain a serial code) for the full
version of Acronis True Image 7.

The information you require is below, after a really important statement:

The Computeractive free downloads are only for Computeractive readers,
please do not give out the download information to anyone who does not read
the magazine. We tell our software suppliers that only our readers are
downloading their software and the software isn't supposed to be available
    to the general public.

However, with the Acronis True Image 7 promotion, this is exactly what
happened. The promotion leaked to the general Internet public and other
websites started promoting the download. Result? Our server was absolutely
inundated with download requests and Acronis were overwhelmed with
registration requests. They quickly noted that the requests were from users
all over the world and weren't Computeractive readers.

Our contract with Acronis is to offer the free commercial download to
Computeractive readers and Acronis wanted to suspend the download offer when
it was clear it was being downloaded by the general public. We came to an
agreement to offer the download to our genuine readers who contact us
requesting further information - that way it's easy to determine that the
    request is from a reader.

If we experience further problems with the free downloads in the future, we
are likely to stop offer the service.

You can download this software from this link:

Please keep this information to yourself. If you have problems with this
link in Internet Explorer, copy and paste the link within Mozilla Firefox to
    download.

You also need to obtain a serial code from Acronis:

Note that neither Computeractive nor Acronis can offer technical support for
    a free download.

    Re: Acronis True Image 7

    Jeff,
    Thanks for the additional info.
I did get the impression from Acronis that they were reluctantly still giving out limited reg numbers for that Version 7 offer.
I think the only possible good thing about getting the older version registered, is that it may give you the opportunity to upgrade to the newest version at a discounted price. Maybe!
Anyway, hang in there. Version 10 should be out shortly. Worth the wait.

    Bob,

Actually, it was released yesterday. There was an announcement of the release of TI 10 on the True Image support forum yesterday here: True Image 10 released. <IMG SRC=http://www.the-highway.com/Smileys/bigglasses.gif>

And, <big><big><big>Yes</big></big></big> it works just fine with Vista RC2.
I have installed trial Version 10 and have run a full image of the Vista partition from within Vista. This is the first Vista ready program I have installed that works out of the "box".

    Re: Acronis True Image 7

    Hi Bob

I wonder if you can answer this for me?

I am looking at True Image for use at work, so paying a licence isn't a problem. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15> Seriously, though, I want to set up a PC which will automatically re-image the HDD when it is restarted.

What I would like to know is if this is a feature in the single licence version. The only answer I have been able to get to date is that it is available in the Enterprise version.

    TIA.
    Granville
