DOC --> PDF

We currently use a program called PDF995 (at least that's what I change my printer to when I want to convert a Word document into a PDF).

Problem is, the hyperlinks don't convert.

Anybody know of a DOC-to-PDF program that preserves hyperlinks? Thanks!

I presume you mean a free one? - Adobe Acrobat seems to do the job, but at a price.

Adobe Acrrobat is enormously expensive simply to convert a Word document into a Acrobat file [img]/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif[/img]

Microsoft Word is an enormously expensive piece of software just to create hyperlinks <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

A quick search of the Software forum brings up <post#=521,147>post 521,147</post#> - according to Alan's blurb pdfMachine creates 'Active URLs' so may be worth a look!

What I sometimes do at home, where I don't have Acrobat, is open the Word document in OpenOffice and then use the Export as PDF feature. OpenOffice generally opens Word documents faithfully, though you do have to check that it hasn't done something odd to the layout of a more complicated document. It's <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> .

I tried downloading and installing Open Office- I got an error message when I tried to open it. Reinstalls with different options didn't help. I gave up on it.

I've tried it in PDF Creator- mentioned in this thread - and it works. The link is clickable.

I wonder why. I've never had any trouble. You did find the Windows version, I suppose?

It was the windows version.

From memory, I may have had the same problem when trying for a client a few years ago. But I'm not sure.

I suspect it's not as robust as the product which has been paid for. Which is understandable. There's a much smaller client base, and it is probably less sturdy than the much bigger opposition product.

Hmm. I just tried it using PDF Creator, but it didn't work. Can the free version of Acrobat process hyperlinks?
