    Deleting corrupt files (XP SP2)

I have a folder on an NTFS logical drive partition containing assorted files which I cannot delete as one of the files in it is "corrupt or unreadable" Tried to delete from the command prompt with the same error. Have run full Chkdsk with no apparent errors, but STILL cannot delete the corrupt file/folder. Short of formatting and rebulding the drive, any suggestions please

I don't know if it'll work on a corrupt file, but the free utility Unlocker has been mentioned favorably in the Lounge recently. You could give it a try.

If Unlocker doesn't do the trick for you, give Dr. Delete a try. It is also <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>.

Re: Deleting corrupt files (XP SP2)

I had a similar problem with two files in a folder that were deemed corrupt and I couldn't delete them either with Unlocker or Dr Delete or from safe mode or anything else I tried.

I DID get rid of them by restoring a recent drive Image from Acronis True Image. By doing a complete restore of the drive, It repartitioned it at the same time and finally got rid of the corrupt files.

Drastic way of doing it but since the Image was very recent all was well and didn't have to do any reinstalling or rebuilding.

I also had to do a TI restore to fix the problem. Looks like NTFS chkdsk doe not do all it claims!
