    A tricky triangle

ABDC and DEFG are squares. Can you determine the area of the shaded triangle region?

Re: A tricky triangle - 50 pt. bonus

As a follow up bonus question... Is it possible, from the information provided, to determine the area of the "orange" shaded region? If so, what is it?
