    Giving Audio CD Priority (WinXP SP-2)

    I don't use my PC CD player as a player often... but as it happens, I am right now, and every time (not **every**) my browser changes pages, my CD pauses, and then picks up again.

    Is there a way to adjust buffering or something to give priority to the CD?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    Is your CD player on the same hardware channel as the disk that contains your temporary internet files?

    If you don't know how the hardware is phyiscally attached download SIW - System Information for Windows - Software,Hardware,Network. Unizip it, and run it. The look at the 'System Storage Devices' subsection (near the bottom of the hardware section). Click on a device and record the Location from the bottom part of the display.

    My two hard drives are on the primary controller, and the cd and dvd are on the secondary controller...

    Chuck,

    I presume you are talking about Windows Media Player when you mentioned "PC CD player". If this is correct, change settings for WMP, restricting its access to the Internet:
    - Open Windows Media Player and from Tools Menu choose Options (if you do not see menu toolbar, right-click the upper border of WMP window);
    - On Optons window click Privacy tab and uncheck "Display media information from the Internet" and "Update music files by retrieving media info from the Internet";
    - Then click Library tab and uncheck "Retrieve additional information from the Internet";
    - Click Apply, OK.

    As an alternative, you can use "simple" Media Player (Media Player 2) to play your CDs. It is located in
    C:Program FilesWindows Media Playermplayer2.exe

    You can add such option to the context or autoplay menu, using, for example TweakUI:
    Open TweakUI, navigate to My Computer > AutoPlay > Handlers, click Create button, check AudioCD and choose appropriate name and description for the action, pointing to MediaPlayer 2 program. When you insert Audio CD, you can choose your new option from pop-up window.

    I hope it will help to solve your problem.

    Check the properties for the CD drive and try disabling digital playback.

    Joe/Howard:

    Thanks guys. I'll be trying these adjustments over the next couple days.
