    Windows Vista problems

    Hi all,
I have upgraded my system from XP home Edition to Windows Vista, it worked very well for 3 days, but now i am getting the following error when i switch my PC on.
Windows Vista could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM. I have used the repair feature on the disk but it does not seem to work. It says searching to do repairs but nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

    Many thanks

    Re: Windows Vista problems

Presumably this is a beta version of Vista? Can you tell us what version?
I'd be inclined to do a repair (re)installation.

Have you tried a repair installation?

You might have more luck with one of the official beta forums, such as Technet.

When I put in the disk it gives you an option to repair, but that option does not work. To repair and installation do i have to click on install first?

    Thanks,

    Re: Windows Vista problems

I'm not talking about a repair from within the OS, but reinstalling the full works and opting for 'Repair' as opposed to a 'Clean install'.

(I'm assuming that Vista allows you to do this, in much the same way as previous MS operating systems have.)

You changed your post from that which I replied to above...

To be honest, I've no idea. When you say 'that option does not work', what happens?
Does it seem to go through the repair installation but fail?
Does it give up half-way through?

Have you tried running chkdsk to rule out any hard-disk corruption?

Where did you download your copy from?
    And did you "Activate" it?
As the activation expires in 3 days after install!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Windows Vista problems

Vista RC 2 was out for pre-release but apparently MS pulled it back.
Most places still say RC2 build 5743, is supposed to be released on this Friday.
If that's the case why not go for the RC 2 update?
