Not able to Map Drive (Windows XP)

I am using My Computer to see what Network Drives I have. I noticed that I needed a drive mapped to a folder that contains several databases we use. In My Computer I used Tools, Map Network Drives - I used the Drive pull down to give it a Drive and then went to the Browse... to follow the path to the database folders. I am only able to go 2 sub folders from the Entrie Network - Microsoft Windows Network - Data I can go no further and not see the 2 other subfolders.

Our network group tells me:
The mapped drives are available when I use: net use j: servernamesharename --Why you cannot map a drive in the Windows Tools-Map Drive is curious. I can add the mapping in a script to logon.

Anybody have Ideas?

It is possible that the length of the path (servernamesharename) exceeds 255-character path limitation. Windows will fail to map folders with a specified path that exceeds this length.
If this is correct, the only way is to rename subsequent folders to avoid this pitfall.
