    login sessions (Windows XP)

I am looking for a way to show when a user has logged into the network. Is there a Windows command or is there a log file that keeps track of that kind of thing for normal uses?

If this a domain based network you can configrue it to log all logons and look at the security event log.

Thanks. Can a normal user do this and get information about his/her own login sessions? If so, how?
    Sorry to be obtuse.

It depends how you define "normal" (and "abnormal") user. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
In reality, everything depends of security policy of the user group to which user belongs.

Try this: click Start | Run, type EVENTVWR and hit Enter. Event Viewer window appears. On the left pane, select System. On the right pane, navigate to the event corresponding to login and logoff and look for time/date stamp (you can doube-click each event to see event description).

If Event Viewer window does not appear, that means your group policy prevents it.

I believe that you still have to configure Windows to audit logon events. These are are set using the Group Policy editor.
