Different Fonts for the same bookmark? (Word 2003 sp2)

    Is it possible to specify differnt fonts for the same bookmark within a document?

    For example, the first instance of a bookmark is on the title page, and should be a large, bold font (such as Arial 16). The next instance is within the document, and should be smaller and not bold (such as TNR 11).

    I've tried applying the font directly to the bookmark area, and that doesn't work.

    Thanks for your help.

    A bookmark can only be in one location in a document, so I suppose you mean something else. Do you mean a cross reference to a bookmark?

    Yes, sorry, I meant a cross reference to a bookmark. I'd like to be able to define the various cross-references with a different font style. Is that possible to do?

    Yep. Right-click a cross reference and select Toggle Field Codes from the popup menu (or press Shift+F9).
    If you see
* MERGEFORMAT
, delete this field switch.
    Insert a new switch
* CHARFORMAT
before the closing bracket }
    Then press F9 to hide the field code and update the field.
    From now on, you should be able to format the cross reference the way you want.

    Question - Even though I delete the * MERGEFORMAT field switch, it reinserts itself after I press F9. How do I get rid of it for good, or doesn't it matter as long as I have the * CHARFORMAT swich in the field?

    As far as I can tell the * charformat switch takes precedence over the * mergeformat switch if both are present, so it shouldn't matter.
