    Search?

Testing the search feature? Playing with the markup tags, I came across the magnifying glass! Never used it and dunno what it does? The little bit of help in <!help=19>Help 19<!/help> does not tell in what context to use it?
    <A SEARCH=1 HREF="dosearch.pl?Forum=All_Forums&Match=Entire+Ph rase&Old=allposts&Words=bullets+and+numbering">bul lets and numbering[/url]

    Re: Search?

    OK....now this is confusing!!!

I had to re-enter my post as it contained an error. When I reposted it, the Search link I created with the markup tags now shows >> <A SEARCH=1 HREF="dosearch.pl?Forum=All_Forums&Match=Entire+Ph rase&Old=allposts&Words=bullets+and+numbering">bul lets and numbering[/url]

What happened. I cannot recall this behaviour with other mark up tags??
    Regards,
    Rudi

    Re: Search?

The idea is to provide a pre-programmed search in a reply. For example <!t>[search]"bullets and numbering"<!t>[/search] will result in bullets and numbering. Clicking the link will perform a search for the phrase "bullets and numbering" in all forums. If you omit the quotes, you'll get an 'or' search.
However, there is a bug in the Lounge software: if you try to edit the post aftwerwards, the tags are mixed up with the actual HTML code generated. So: don't edit a post with <!t>[search] tags, or delete the messed up link and enter it from scratch.

    Re: Search?

Thx Hans. That explains it well.

One Q: Is it possible to pre-program a search in a reply that will search only in a certain forum? I notice that a search across all forums can take a long time to display the result, esp. if network traffic on the server is high!

    Tx

    Re: Search?

Click the Search button in the Lounge menu bar.
Set up the search the way you want to (forum, search for, search options, date range, number of results to return)
    Click Submit.
When the search results appear, copy the URL in the address bar of your browser to the clipboard, and paste it between <!t> and <!t> tags in your reply.
Even more convenient, use Alan Miller's right-click menu option - see Pulling URLs. The most recent version can be found attached to <post:=470,942>post 470,942</post:>.
