Bar Chart Axis Labels Order (2003)

How come, in the attached xls, the order of the Y-axis labels is reversed with respect to the order in the chart data table and how do you make the orders match?

The default direction in which you enter data in Excel is down, while the default orientation of the vertical axis (it's not the y-axis but the x-axis in this chart) is up. So what you see is 'normal'.
To change it, select the Category axis by clicking on the axis or one of its labels.
Select Format | Selected Axis...
Activate the Scale tab.
Tick the check box 'Categories in reverse order'.
Click OK.

Hi Hans, I'm just making a little foray into the Excel forum .
I've tried that and it works but the problem is the value axis gets moved from bottom to top, is there a way to keep it at the bottom?

Tick the next check box too: "Value (Y) axis intersects at maximum category"

(Why haven't you taken a second to look at the dialog?)

Thank you Hans,
Didn't try that because I thought the maximum category was the one at the top
I've also checked the one that says "Value (Y) axis intersects at any category" because otherwise the chart plot chops off a bit of the top and bottom bars although I'm in the dark as to what that sentence exactly entails.

I have to say that the Italian translation of that sentence was completely off-target.
I've checked the English version and it says, "Value (Y) axis crosses between categories" and this sort of explains why that bar chopping off might occur(although I think it shouldn't anyway)

The English version is 'Value (Y) axis crosses between categories'. If this check box is ticked, the bars will be between the scale markers on the axis. If the check box is clear, the bars will be on the scale markers, causing half of the first and last bars to be chopped off.
