Additional controls not available (Office VBA)

I have a client that told me that their PC crashed. Once up and running again, they re-installed office completely. Once that was up, they noticed that the VBA editor did not provide the additional controls when a user form is designed. Apparently it is all greyed out.

Any reason for this. Must some reference be active to get additional conrols?

Any advice is welcome

Are you absolutely sure that a userform was active? If a module is active, Additional Controls will be grayed out.

In addition to Hans' point, AFAIK the Additional Controls option is greyed out if the toolbox is not visible.

Re: Additional controls not available (Office VBA)

Hi Hans and Rory,

I do not know if the user had a module or a user form active. I just got the message that they said the additional controls was not available, where as it used to be available before the crash!

I will advise them on both your suggestions. I too noticed now that the option is grey if a module ia active, or s the user form is active the toolbar must also be there!
Cheers

Rudi

Re: Additional controls not available (Office VBA)

I have since been informed of the solution to this clients problem.

It had to do with unregistered dll files. The problem originated when the PC crashed and the user uninstalled Office which unregistered the dll files (incl. those for additional controls in VBA). With the re-installation, the dll files were not re-registered and this caused the controls to be greyed out and unavailable. It was then necessary to use the run command to reregister the dll's by typing Regserv [Name].dll to reactivate them. After the necessary files were active the additional controls were again available in VBA.

I realize the horse has already bolted on this occasion, but if you get similar client problems in the future, it might be worth having Emsa Register Dll Tool: Information and Dll Registration Tool for Windows in your toolbox. It's and saves all that Start -> Run -> Where the is it! stuff.
