Empty MTP options box (XP Pro SP2)

One of the things I dislike about XP are the pop-up option boxes when one connects a USB device. I've never found a way to completely surpress them. Recently I got a Zen V Plus player. When I connect this a pop-up options box appears only it is completely empty. No options so I can't choose ignore this device. So every time I connect the player the box pops up and I need to cancel it. Does anyone know of a way (perhaps delving into the registry) to get rid of it completely.

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

Are you talking about the AutoRun dialog that appears? If that's the case, you can disable AutoRun on specific drives using TweakUI.

The easiest way to do it is to use TweakUI PowerToy for Windows XP.

If you did not install it yet, download TweakUI from the link above and install it, then open TweakUI and navigate to
My Computer > AutoPlay > Drives on the left pane,
the uncheck all possible drive letters on the right pane (you can left your CD/DVD drives unchecked, if you want).

Of course, you can uncheck only the drive letter associated with your USB device.

However, you can disable Autoplay the hard way.
    Open Registry Editor, navigate to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionPoliciesExplorer
and create new DWORD value named NoDriveTypeAutoRun, then modify it to 0xb5 (type B5 in Value Data box).

Thanks for the replies, I have TweakUI and all the drives for autoplay are unchecked. The Zen VPlus is an MTP device. When I attach it no additional drive appears under My Computer or in Windows Explorer. The autorun dialogue box is completely empty so I guess something is not quite right. I tried changing the registry setting but it made no difference.
