Persistent Cookie (IE 6.0 SP1)

I would like to know How to set a cookie to Persistent. I have several sites that need to install a cookie, yet some program I use deletes them all and I haven't been able to discover which one does that. It may be the same one that removes the programs I've typed in Run (but that's another isssue).

Setting a cookie to Presistent is my main concern now.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1) In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Security tab.
2) Click the Web content zone you want, and then click Custom Level.
3) Under Cookies, click the option you want to use under Allow cookies that are stored on your computer, click OK, and then click OK.

Under Custom Level, any tab, there is no Cookies topic where I can allow or disallow. Am I missing something or is there another way to set Cookes?

Thank you for your help, but I'm not using Windows SP2 and I'm not looking for a feature to auto. delete cookies. My problem is finding a way to change cookie handling. I'm going to deal with this one problem at a time.

(Edited by jscher2000 on 15-Oct-06 11:13. )
Cookies are stored by default. And as far as I can tell, IE6 for Windows XP SP2 does not have a feature to automatically delete cookies every time you close the browser. However, since some program is clearing your cookies, the problem is telling that program NOT to clear the ones you want to keep. I haven't followed all your posts, so I don't know what "privacy" tools you might be running. Therefore, you need to provide some more information (about the security program you are running).

Added: In another thread on cookies I saw a reference to a clean-up you can schedule for when you shut down Windows. I don't know whether that is built-in or is set up using TweakUI or another utility.

Sorry I wasn't clear. You already turned on a feature to auto-delete cookies in some program. You need to find it and turn it off. SP level probably isn't relevant.

Do you mean to turn off all cookie restrictions? I only need a couple, for instance a game I play everyday (Pogo.com) and this program (wopr.com).

Hi Gloria,
There is a little utility called Cookie Wall that I've mentioned before in the Lounge. It allows you to remove or KEEP cookies that are sent to you. Once installed it just monitors your traffic and if it sees a new cookie, it will ask you to keep or remove it, then it stores your preferences.

Get it at AnalogX

I'm not sure what you mean by "turn off all cookie restrictions." Where would you turn that on and off?

If you have already set up IE to keep those cookies, then IE will keep those cookies. I suspect the problem is not in IE, but is caused by some other program. Can you list your other security programs? Do you use TweakUI for anything?

Hi Viking, You've come through once again, I've installed Cookie Wall. I haven't used it yet, but I like what I see and what I read in the FAQ's written by the the author. If it's half as good as I think it is, I will be eternally grateful for your leading me to it.
Thanks, my friend.

Re: Persistent Cookie (IE 6.0 SP1)

I guess I didn't mean turning them all off, I was thinking about raising the slider in Internet Options > Privacy tab or Overriding cookie handling.

My security programs are: WinPatrol, NOD32 AntiVirus, Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2006, Registry Mechanic and Tweak UI (not the one written for XP).

You are very welcome, Gloria.
I've used that little prog for a long time and it does do the job well, at least for me.

You should scan through the other utilities on the AnalogX site. They have any number of them that are quite handy. They are all small, tight code and take up practically no resources.
