Contacts gone after reinstall (Outlook 2003)

A new customer of mine uses Outlook 2003 with an IMAP mail account. His system needed to be reinstalled due to a number of different problems. Next to his IMAP account he also had an old POP3 account which he no longer used. Prior to doing the reinstallation I ran the WinXP File and Settings Migration tool. After reinstalling WinXP I reinstalled Office 2003, did all of the updates for both Windows and Office, and then ran the Migration Tool again to import his data. My own fault, but when I checked his system to verify everything was working properly, I only checked to see if he could send and receive e-mail. This functionality works fine. but I didn't check to see if his addresses were restored. And today when he returned from vacation, he discovered that they are missing. This is my first experience with an IMAP mail account, so I am not sure where to look for his contact addresses. Were these stored locally and all I have to do is import them from somewhere? Are they on the mail server of his provider and I need to set something up? Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.

Re: Contacts gone after reinstall (Outlook 2003)

Users sometimes get confused about losing their contacts or addresses when they lose the AutoComplete feature's nicknames file. Or when the Address Book dialog has not been configured to tap into the Contacts folder. So it's possible that the data is right there but not wired in as expected.

Do you recall migrating a PST file? If so, does the user find his Contacts folder intact? If so, then it could be the address book wiring. See whether <post#=334705>post 334705</post#> helps with that.

Thanks for the tip, I have printed it out and will use it to see what I can find. About the PST-file, no, I do not remember importing it or doing anything with it after the reinstallation. I thought that the PST file would automatically be picked up by the Migration Tool. If it was, then I would think that there is a possibility that the PST has been copied back and is just sitting there, and all I have to do is import the address book from there. But if the PST was not copied during the Migration, then my guess is that I am sunk.
