    bookmark->PDF (2003sp2)

    This is admitedly one step removed from a pure Word problem, but ...

    The administratice assistant showed me a problem with Word bookmarks in footers. When written to a PDF file, the bookmark links in the footer stop functioning, but the bookmarks in the body ofhe document continued to work properly.

    I know that in Word headers and footers are kind of special, but I've not seen anything like this before. I'd welcome any suggestions.

    This is part of the Adobe toolbar's functionality? I'm not sure whether that code is available for debugging (i.e., it might be protected from viewing/editing). If not, you should submit a complaint to Adobe. While I'm sure you are not the only user who has noticed this, it might take several people complaining to get Adobe to focus on it.

    How badly do you need the bookmark in the footer to be a link? It can be made into a link if you use the Print field in conjunction with pdfmark code which is how the PDFMaker macros do this sort of thing. Getting the syntax right is tricky but it can be done with lots of trial and error and the pdfmark reference manual.

    I actually used the printer driver from Acrobat Pro 7 on my machine.

    Good point about talking to Adobe, though. That was my next stop.

    Thanks Andrew,

    We could find a different way to do it, but I'm not sure we will be ableto avoid suffering in any case. I'll look into doing it this way. Thanks!

    As a hint to save you some searching (note that the {} parenthesis marks are field codes in the following examples)
    A bookmark
    {Print "[ /Page {Page} /View [ /Fit ] /Title (Look at me) /OUT pdfmark"}

    A named destination
    {Print "[ /Dest /CallMe{Page} /View [ /Fit ] /DEST pdfmark"}

    A good starting point with other references listed can be found at http://www.planetpdf.com/planetpdf/pdfs/pd...markrecipes.pdf
