Slow Web Pages (IE7)

I downloaded IE7 and I like the new interface however it seems as though web pages load slower. It is not painstaking slow by any means ... it just seems not quite as fast as IE6. Any suggestions regarding this matter would be appreciated.

I/ve been running IE7 RC1 and havent noticed any slowness. I installed the released version this morning on my laptop and all is well there too. I will install it on this machine later today.
Thanks John

I have noticed that some pages seem to be loading slower. When you are at such a page, look in the lower right corner and see if the "Phishing" icon is there and working?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I also "bit the bullet" and loaded IE7 ( despite my earlier hesitations in other posts ) and while it appears to be running OK, I DID notice an apparent slowdown of page loading. It's good to see that I wasn't the only one to notice this.

The first thing I did was to disable the automatic phishing check and it helped somewhat but I still think there is some amount of slowness in IE7.

Perhaps some more comment from other Loungers is needed.

After using it now on this system for the second day, I do NOT see much difference than when was running IE6.
Been running IE7 on laptop since Beta1 and the speed was improved on or about the second or thrid day of use.

And, YES, both are running the "Phishing" protection.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Re: Slow Web Pages (IE7)

Hi there

I have been advised by a company that supplies my browser based CRM system NOT to download Internet Explorer 7.0 as a critical update at the end of this month on any of the work PC's until they have thoroughly tested the application and made changes to any of the various dll and scripts that the system runs with. A series of customers went off and did this and have found a massive degredation in the product as it was primarily designed with IE 6 SP1 + in mind. IE 7 is going to be a big jump for it.

I have a copuple of people in my department who always want the newest, latest piece of software on their PC's so they can be cutting edge, one of these guys has had to rebuild his PC, twice this year...that is the reason he is still a junior developer . He originally thought it was a network issue that was slowing down his browser then found it was the installation.

I have seen advise to let the first few updates through after the launch to get around the initial bugs....my opinion

I turned off the phishing filter also and it SEEMS to have helped. I will wait a day or two and turn it on again and see what happens.

Re: Slow Web Pages (IE7)

I ran across a record of my DSL line speeds from before changing to IE 7. ( 1486KB & 198.4KB )
Just ran the same Verizon Speed test with IE 7. ( 1291KB & 161.6KB )
This is on a T1 grade 1.5M DSL line.

I realize there will be variations in these tests due to Internet traffic, time , etc. but there DOES seem to be a noticeable slow down with IE 7 installed.

Re: Slow Web Pages (IE7)

I have just about definitely established that IE 7 slow down reported by me, is due to the tabbed browsing being enabled. Without tabbed browsing , I can get to and load pages at my normal speed without the delay I have been experiencing since installing IE 7.

I have reinstalled IE 7 without any change being seen in the turtle like response. I have gone through the usual malware, adware and virus checks. Cleared the TIFs and temp files. Still sadness.

I think I am using the default tabbed settings ( see screenshot ) but wonder if there should be any changes made to them?

Any other useful tips or checks to make?

Try turning off Quick Tabs? It creates thumbnails of the pages open in all the tabs which, if you don't need that, sounds like some overhead you might be able to trim.
