Can you say what the install routine is doing during the install? Loading drivers? Setting up?
How big is the new HD? Has it been formatted and/or partitioned?

The new HDD has been portioned and formatted , it crashes when setting up windows. Cannot say precisely when error occurs as on another persons PC. But it is transferring of windows files to pc, gets about 3/4 of the way through the install.

You really need to provide more information for us to be of much help here.

How large is the HD ?? Windows 98 has HD size limitations. So we need the size of the entire HD and the size of each of the partition(s).
What do you mean by "as on another person's PC" ?? You said you were reinstalling.

Umm, what's the error message say? They actually do mean something, and could help narrow down the list of possibilities.
