    Re: Referencing fields in forms and sub-forms (Access 2003)

    1) See Forms: Refer to Form and Subform properties and controls on the Access Web for a comprehensive overview of how to refer to controls.

    2) There are several methods for retrieving data from another table. One of them is the DLookup function - type DLookup in a module or in the Immediate window (in the Visual Basic Editor) and press F1 to get help. The format is
    <code>
    variable = DLookup("FieldName", "TableName", "Condition")
    </code>
    where Condition specifies which record should be looked up, e.g. <code>ItemID = 3</code> or <code>LastName = 'Jones'</code>

    3) See <post:=597,983>post 597,983</post:> and <post:=502,567>post 502,567</post:> for some suggestions about learning tools and books.

    If you have more specific questions, you're welcome to post them.

    Hans
    Thanks for your help with this, especially pointing at the Access Web, which looks like a really good source of info.
    The first reference in particular looks like the answer to all my field/form referencing problems.
