    Pop-up problem (Win XP w/SP2)

Can anyone tell me what the meaning of this pop-up is? It shows up when I first boot up. It began after I downloaded the new IE-7.

Smart Bridge Alerts - Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located
in the dynamic link library PSPI.DLL

Does it have any significance? What if any thing should I do?

    Regards,
    Slim

I did a Google search (Results 1 - 10 of about 491 for "SmartBridge Alerts ") and found many reasons and fixes for this error.
Do a search on "SmartBridge Alerts "

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I think you're referring to PSAPI.DLL and not PSPI.DLL, but either way, I think I know what's happening.

After you installed IE7, it upgraded the original PSAPI.DLL with a newer version. DLL files contain programming routines that are used over and over - if you're familiar with programming, it's like classes in C++. Now, you've got some software (probably something named Smart Bridge) that is looking for a specific routine in PSAPI.DLL, and since it's been changed, it's not there, generating the error you see.

The question then becomes: what do you have running when the computer starts? You can see a list of all boot-time programs by clicking on Start - Run and entering MSCONFIG in the box, then pressing ENTER. The Startup tab in MSCONFIG will show you all the processes that start when Windows loads. If you're not experiencing any problems with your rig other than the error you're seeing, it's probably just an annoyance. Are you using the game software SmartBridge? Disable it and see what happens. As Dave noted, it seems to be a rather common problem, which means sloppy programming to me.

    Mark, you are a genius.
First, you were correct that it was PSAPI.DLL that was in the pop-up. My error.
Second, I did as you suggested and used msconfig.exe and unchecked the file MotiveSB in Startup. When I rebooted the pop-up did not appear. It seems the problem is fixed.
Many thanks for your assistance. It is very much appreciated.

    With best regards,
    Slim
