    Database access (Access03)

I have a main education database in one folder that only 4 people have access to. I am creating a new database, Training, to provide managers access to certain data that is held in the education database. I have linked from the Training database to the Education database tables. The Training table is in another folder that managers will have access to. Will the Training db talk to the Education db? For obvious reasons I don't want the managers having direct access to the Education db.

If I understand you correctly, the Training database contains links to tables in the Education database. For this to work, the managers using the Training database will need to have full permissions (read/write/create/delete) to the folder containing the Training database and also to the folder containing the Education database. So if they want to (and know how to), the managers can open the Education database directly. If you think it's very unlikely they will try to do that, you're OK, but if you want a more secure solution, you'll need to apply user-level security to your database(s). That way, you can specify which permissions each user has within the database.

Here are some useful links concerning user-level security:

Unfortunately, I just knew you was going to say that. But a girl has got to hope and try. Thank you Hans. Fay
