    command prompt a view of all contents in a folder (Windowws XP)

    It has been a long time and I can remember how to call up a folder and veiw all contents of a folder and the subfolders files.

    can someone help

    I don't know what you mean exactly, but if you click on a folder in the left hand pane of Windows Explorer and press the asterisk key * on the numeric keypad, the entire subfolder tree of the selected folder will be expanded.

    Are you talking about a Command Prompt window, changing to the required directory with CD <directorypath>, then using DIR *.* /S ?

    You get a lot of output and would have to scroll up and down the window...

    Done from a (root) folder with lots of files, you can add |more:
    <code>DIR *.* /S |MORE</code>

    to enable a page-at-a-time view. (Press any key for next page, CTRL+Break to exit)

    (Do you need to include the *.*?)

    Nowadays I seem to get a command prompt window with the usual Windows scrollable 'elevator' at the RHS, which is much preferable to "| MORE", since the console output can be scrolled both up and down.

    I put DIR *.* out of habit, but you don't need it, of course, other than being indicative of what is being requested.
