    Default Picture Folder (2003)

    Hi y'all,

I'm developing a Tip for my client covering the File Locations setup at Tools | Options | File Locations.

I understand (I think) what is happening regarding the "Working Folder" whose default location is set in the "Documents" file location initially. As one Opens and/or Saves documents, Word adjusts the "Working Folder."

Unfortunately, Word doesn't do that when you execute Insert | Picture | From File. Word always goes back to the "Clipart pictures" folder setting at Tools | Options | File Locations. Word doesn't remember where you last inserted a picture from. This behavior can be frustrating, and sometimes confusing to novices.

Allen Wyatt has a really neat WordTip about this at Default Picture Location. Allen suggests leaving the "Clipart pictures" folder setting blank (empty). I can successfully do that in Word 2000, but am unable to leave it blank in Word 2003!

Anyone have any suggestions for Word 2003 to leave the "Clipart pictures" folder setting blank or empty?

    Thanks and G'Day,
    Rich

You can use RegEdit to clear or delete the PICTURE-PATH entry in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0WordOp tions registry key.

    Hi Hans,

Thanks, I was afraid you'd say something like that! :-(

Is there no way for a user without admin rights to do what Allen suggests?

    G'Day,
    Rich

I don't know how restricted the users are. Can they open .reg files? If so, the attached .reg file (zipped, for the Lounge doesn't allow .reg attachments) will delete the PICTURE-PATH entry.

    Hi Hans,

No, our users cannot open such files.

    Thanks so much,
    Rich

I suppose the network gods in your company could set up a group policy that clears or deletes the registry entry.
