Screen dumps of desk top Icons

Please help. I have created a new link on the desktop ( A link to my company email). How do I create a screen dump of the actual icon on the desk top. When I click on the icon and do a alt - print screen it prints the whole desktop and all the icons.

You seem to be using conflicting terms here. A screen dump is just that - a clipboard stored picture of the entire screen. Alt-PrintScreen works only for an individual window that is open and in focus. If you want a picture of the icon in question, you could use whatever graphics program you have to "crop" the screen image to show only the icon. Other methods are also possible, but cropping is the quickest and easiest, I think.

I use an early version of HandySnap that was <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> and didn't add a watermark like the <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> Trial Version that is available now. If you can live with the watermark or don't mind paying the $15 for a home licence, it's a great utility.

For a neat, light, <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> solution I'd opt for FGWndGrab.
You can get HandySnap 0.5.3 beta (last freeware version) at A+ Freeware - Multimedia & Design - Image Editing.

And then when you upgrade or get a new machine with Vista on it, you will have "Snipping Tool" <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Alt+PrintScreen captures the currently active window. For the desktop, apparently that is the entire desktop. You can trim out just the portion you want using an image editing program, even the lowly Paint supplied with Windows.
