    Import Text (2k3)

I am trying to import a text file into Access. The text import wizard is assuming that the data is in unicode format and returns an error that the record size is too large. Once the message appears I can get to the dialogue box to change the text format to US-ASCII and suddenly every thing works as expected. Is there some way to force Access to use US-ASCII as a default?

In Access 2002, text import specifications include information about the code page (Windows, Unicode, US-Ascii, ...). I won't be ab;e to test in Access 2003 before tomorrow.

I realize you can change the code in the import specifications, however I have to wait for the error to appear before I can get to the spec screen to change it to us-ascii. I was wondering if you could set the code before it attempts the import?

You could import the text file using code - the DoCmd.TransferText method has a SpecificationName argument.
