Remove Getting Started Task Pane (Word 2003)

Is there a way to permanently remove the Getting Started Task pane in Word 2003? I know you can set it to not show when you start up Word, but I actually want to get rid of it.

    No, that is not possible.

You can rewire some menu and toolbar items to bypass the Task Pane. For example, if you wanted to use the "old" New File dialog, you could override Word's calling of the New File task pane. In Word 2002 I also did this for the Styles dialog, but I had some problems with setting tabs. Perhaps these buried dialogs holding over from earlier versions of Word are not exactly the same as the new ones you access through the task panes...
