    Lurker

Have I missed something here? How can one post a message and be recognised as a Lurker, if a lurker is defined as one with zero posts?

Posts in Puzzles, Scuttlebutt and Test Area don't contribute to your Post count. See Lounge forum changes.

    Thanks, and Right!
But it seemed somewhat illogical to me (and in retrospect a very minor point) to suggest that a lurker was a non-poster and then to be able to post as a lurker.
I'd like to see "lurker" removed a a visible tag; as the lowest-of-the-low status it is almost derogatory when used in display mode. In self-professed mode it seems OK ("I've been a lurker for a year but would now like to ask a question '...").
If one posts ones first message and see 'Lurker", looks up the definition and sees "a non-participant", or words to that effect, it can hardly serve as a warm welcome to Woody's Lounge.
Since New Lounger is a 1-to-24 poster, that tag ought to suffice for 0-24.

Rather like "P" plates, that tells us someone is a driver, but is more prone to make forgiveable mistakes than others. And also to invite forgiveness.

Originally, posts in those forums did contribute to the post count, so as soon as a newbie had posted anything, their title would be NewLounger. I agree it now looks a bit strange, but it's hardly a major point. I don't think the title 'Lurker' has caused complaints before in the almost six years the current version of the Lounge exists.

    Chris,
OK, what are "P" plates? Special designation auto plates?

In England, when a person is a learner driver, when driving on a public road must have a red "L Plate" to tell other road users that they are learning and give them a wide berth, these plates are obligatory. However, when a driver passes their test and are on the road they can voluntarily have a green "P Plate" saying they have passed but are inexperienced and go with caution. It also gives experienced drivers something to aim for <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

What Jezza sais, but generally "P"robationary, "L"earner etc.
Post-war migrants used to be called "New Australians", "New", so you're allowed to make mistakes with the language, "Australian", so English-speaking, please.

    Jerry and Chris,
It seems like a good idea.
About the only warnings we have here are "Student Driver" magnetic signs on Driving School cars and High School student driver vehicles.

Other more subtle signs are creased and dented side panels, missing hub caps and scratched paint. <img src=/S/blackteeth.gif border=0 alt=blackteeth width=20 height=20>

    Re: Lurker

"Lurker" is standard forum talk in almost any forums on the internet, i don't think that it should change. If you don't want to be a lurker, by the time you post your complaint in the lounge matters forum... you'll already be a New Lounger! If, by chance, you haven't posted and you see that it says "non-participant" - thats only stating the obvious anyway.

The lounge welcomes every new user on the main page until another new user joins which is the warmest welcome I can imagine receiving, not to mention when Hans answers your first question he says welcome to the lounge! <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15> (as do all the other loungers who answer)
