In order to use Win3.11 one needs a box with DOS 3 or better,(NO Windows 95, 98 2K or XP) installed.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

You could check this out. It appears that it is a DOS 6.22 download......you may have to think about the legality of using this as there is a licencing issue.

Windows 3.11 support for CD drives needed some manual stuff to be done at startup.

You need to load the vendor specific device driver for the CDROM in config.sys, and then use MSCDEX.EXE to map a drive letter to this drive during Autoexex.bat.

See http://www.computerhope.com/ac.htm for an example, and see <!mskb=87165>Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 87165<!/mskb> for MSECDEX command line switches.

Some vendors still supply downloads of the required drivers, see here for Plextor for example.
