error message when opening Word (Word 2003 (11.8106.8107) SP2)

When I open Word by double-clicking on a file name, it first gives me a message saying that it cannot open the file as a dialog box is open. [This message does not appear when Word is already open or when a file is opened from within Word.] Clicking "okay" closes the error message box and opens Word.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Often this message occurs when an add-in (e.g., a global template listed in the Templates and Add-ins dialog) was designed to do something that only works with a document open. When you start Word using its program icon, it typically displays a blank document. However, when you start Word by launching a document, Word does not open the blank document, and this sometimes causes this error. The "quick" workaround is to start Word first and leave it running between documents. The "fix" usually requires looking at your add-ins (or macros in Normal.dot) to see which one might require some changes.

Okay -- I'll live with it.

    THANKS.
