    Could Not Log On

    I am a rather neophyte IT officer with a Dell Latitude C800 running W2K. SP2 was installed about 3 weeks ago. Other than a few updated drivers crashing the system, there has been no problem. This morning I worked on it riding into work, closed all files and shut down, as usual.
    When I connected it to the network and attempted to log on, I got the message "The system could not log you on..."
    I can log on as local Administrator, network Administrator, and as Jane Doe, my test for "Standard Users". The latter two access the network with no problem. I can also log on to my network desktop with the User Name and password that the laptop will not accept. I changed my password at the network server about three times. Same situation with desktop and laptop logons. Caps Lock definitely off.
    Renaming my Documents and Settings folder had no effect. Removing me from Users and Passwords, closing down, and adding me back had no effect.
    While our serve is W2K, staff are on Win95 & 98. Our plan is to upgrade computers and migrate to W2K before the end of the year, and my concern is not just for me but also for staff support.
    Any suggestions?

    NT4 server here, but there may be similarities:
    Are you sure you are set up on the server to log in to any workstation and/or more than once?

    Yes. I have been logged in on both simultaneously all year. Just to make sure, however, I did log out of the desktop while I tried to log onto the laptop. No go.

    When your logon window pops up, is there a tab named 'Advanced' near the bottom right? If so, click and make sure you're trying to log on to the right server.
