    I find the easiest method is to create a shortcut to the document or file on my desktop, then drag it down to the Start button. The Start Menu opens up after a short delay and you can position it where you want.

    Just a thought - you can also drag the file from Windows Explorer direct to the Start menu as above, without the need to create an intermediary shortcut.

    I usually right click the start button and choose "Explorer All Users", or 'Explore". That way I can control whether the short cut is for just me or for everyone on the PC.
