Help with dropdown source in validation list (2003)

On looking at a colleagues spreadsheet (who has left the company) l cannot work out how they created a list of values in a drop down list in a hidden worksheet. As l need to do the same thing but with another drop down list. In the hidden spreadsheet it looks like the following. I cannot work out how the validation list calls up these engineers names?

"Engineers" is a named reference. You can, if you wish, use an ordinary reference instead ("=A1:A7" etc.). You can find the list of the named references that have been set up in the drop-down list to the left of the formula bar.

    I have a few questions:

How do l go about creating a name reference?

How do find a list of named references , l looked to the left of the formula bar and all l noticed was the cell reference.

I would appreciate it if you could help with the above , if possible could you send me screenshots.

From the menu, choose Insert-Name-Define. This will bring up a list of defined names where you can view existing ones and create new ones.

Select Name from the Insert menu then select Define from the popup menu. This will display a dialog box that will show a list of defined names and allow you to add additional names.

..or highlight the range of cells you want to name and just type the name (no spaces or funny stuff) and press [Enter] in the place where you looked to the left of the formula bar and noticed the cell reference.

In the Data Validation dialog, choose List in the Allow options and enter =rangename in the source box (i.e. if you named your range test, you enter =test)

Did you have an equal sign (=) in front of "service" in the Data Validation list dialog box?

Re: Help with dropdown source in validation list (

    Then you probably entered
service
in the source box, not
=service
.
