    IE7 hangs (XP-SP2, IE7)

Maybe I should have waited awhile...
Installed IE7, went in ok. But on startup, it tries to go to a Microsoft site, can't seem to find it, then hangs. This seems to have screwed up Firefox 2 as well; it joined IE7 in not connecting. Opera still runs well.
    Any ideas?

In IE7 have you checked Tools | Internet Options | Connections to see if anything has changed? Also, check your firewall settings. Change your home page to "about:blank" without the quotation marks and see if IE will at least initialize. Then try to navigate to a site.

That was the 1st thing I tried, and it does still read "about:blank". Firewall is OK too.

Installing IE7 should not have affected FF. It seems as though something else is going on. Have you done the usual malware scans?

Think I found it - it appears that System Mechanic disabled both after the upgrades (did not have it set to do that). I undid it, I think, and will try to get on the net this eve when I get the notebook home. Here's hoping.
    Thanks for the help.

Exactly what settings did it change?

SysMech v6 Pro: Protect / Block Internet Threats / Firewall Tool Options / Application Rules. It had set a rule to block both IE and Firefox. I didn't think to look there because I hadn't ever had trouble with new apps after OK'ing the dialog box that SysMech puts up if anything changes (which it did in both instances), including 2 updates to Opera as well.
