    removeable disk (current)

I have a very large USB2 attached removable disk that is used for backups etc. After converting to XP2, I successfully stopped windows XP from trying to use "autoplay" on the device (used properties and set to windows explorer), but have not been able to stop the scan for file types. I just use cancel and it stops the scan and goes directly into windows explorer.

Is there any way to stop the scan for file types? Not a big problem - just an annoyance.

    Thanks in advance

    Tom

Download and install TweakUI from Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP.

Then open TweakUI (Start > All Programs > Powertoys for Windows XP > TweakUI), navigate to My Computer > AutoPlay > Types on the left pane and uncheck "Enable Autoplay for removable drives" on the right pane.
