OL2K3 calendar invites issue (Outlook 2003/latest service pack)

I have a user that uses Outlook at home as well as in the office. He likes to keep his calendar at home in sync with his calendar at work so he invites himself to appointments. When he sends an invite from his home PC to his work account it comes through fine and he can accept the invite. But when he sends an invite from his work account to his home PC it arrives as information but not as an appointment he can accept as a meeting invite. Any ideas how to fix this?

Does this affect only the one user?

If just the one, look under Tools>Options..., Mail Format, Internet Format..., the center drop-down. The message might need to be sent as RTF in order to preserve the buttons. (Not that I've tested, but I have this suspicion.)

If many are affected, perhaps there is an RTF/TNEF to text/HTML conversion for outbound mail at the server.

He's the only one asking about it. No one else has ever asked so I don't know. I'll have him look at the settings you mentioned and see what he finds. Could it possibly be due to his home PC not being on a MS Exchange server? I was thinking that might be the problem.

Unfortunately that didn't do it. Is there any reason you can think of why the stuff sent from his home (ISP) account comes through to our MS Exchange server fine, but not vice versa?

Have him check his setting at home under Tools | Options | Preferences | E-mail Options to make sure 'Read all standard mail in plain text' is not checked.

Everything there looked fine. FYI - at home they are using Outlook 2002 and here at the office they are using Outlook 2003. I tested this problem with a PC at home as well and it worked fine. I used Outlook 2003 in both locations, however, so it's not an identical test. Let me know your thoughts.

I don't know for sure but most likely the format for an appointment is different in 2003 than 2002. In which case, 2003 would most likely understand the 2002 format but 2002 would not understand the 2003 format.

Believe it or not that makes sense. Thanks for the idea.
